Current and former COS Sprinters Win National Titles at the USA Track and Field Championships
Current COS freshmen hurdler Quincy Hall took first place in the 400m hurdles at the USA Track and Field Jr. Championships this past weekend in Sacramento, Ca. Hall, who also won the California Community College state individual titles in the 400m and the 400m hurdles this past May, ran a 49.51 in the finals of the USA Juniors to earn the COS freshmen a spot on the USA Jr. Team. The Team USA Junior team will travel to the Pan Am Games in Trujillo, Peru July 21st through the 23rd.
"I'm excited that I get to have this experience. I'm very proud to wear USA across my chest" said Hall. Hall is currently ranked number one in the world in the 400m hurdles for the 19 and under age group but says there are a handful of talented juniors that will give him a race. "There is a hurdler from Qatar who is top notch as well as another American from East Orange, New Jersey named Cory Poole who I was able to beat last weekend in Sacramento."
On the women's side former COS sprinter and Olympian Deajah Stevens won the women's national title in 200m race. What was more impressive is that she did it running out of lane 9. Stevens was able to pull away from the pack during the last 20 meters to run a 22.30 beating Kim Duncan and Rio Olympic bronze medalist Tori Bowie who ran 22.59 and 22.60 respectively. Deajah will now compete for the Team USA in the World Championship August 5th through 13th in London, England.
Stevens will also be competing in the women's 100m in London after she finished in 2nd place in the USA Championships last weekend in Sacramento. Stevens who ran an 11.08 was edge out by Tori Bowie who ran a 10.94.
