Giants set for homecoming vs. Delta
COS (3-3 overall, 0-1 Valley Conference) plays at home for the first time in nearly a month on Oct. 26 as it hosts San Joaquin Delta (2-4, 0-1) for Homecoming.
Kickoff for the conference game is set for 7 p.m. from Giant Chevrolet and Cadillac Mineral King Bowl.
The Giants have lost two straight, including a 44-21 defeat Oct. 19 at state-ranked Modesto (5-1, 1-0) that featured three touchdown from Gus Villareal (Dinuba), two going to Bryson Allen (Tulare Union). Bobby Peele (Edison) intercepted his fifth pass of the season, tied for second most in the state.
Modesto is ranked tied for fourth in the state by the JC Athletic Bureau Coaches Poll and No. 3 by the California Community College Sports Information Association.
Delta is coming off a 33-20 loss to state No. 11/12 Fresno City.
COS, which was Top 20-ranked in both polls three weeks ago, is no longer receiving votes from the JCABCP and got six votes from the CCCSIA.
The Giants last played at home on Sept. 28, when they rallied for a 23-20 overtime victory over Santa Rosa on Villareal's 25-yard touchdown pass to Allen.
Allen on offense, Undra Coverson (Macon, Ga.) on defense, Rook Landers (Knoxville, Tenn.) on special teams are COS' reigning Tachi Yokut Players of the Week.
