Giants up to No. 4 in state rankings
After a 5-0 start to the season, COS has risen to No. 2 in Northern California and No. 4 overall in the first California Community College Men's Basketball Coaches Association state rankings.
The Giants were ranked No. 3 in NorCal and No. 6 overall in the preseason poll.
COS is coming off a 75-56 victory over Foothill on Nov. 17 at the Fresno City College Classic behind 19 points and six rebounds by Amil Fields (Hayward) and 10 points and four rebounds by Tiveon Stroud (Selma).
The Giants will be idle until Nov. 25, when they host Modesto (3-1). Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. from Porter Field House, where admission is $5 and free for those 10 and under.
That will be the last time to catch the Giants at home for nearly a month.
COS won't play at home again until Dec. 20-21 when it hosts the Wyndham/Mannon Classic.
The Giants are scheduled to face Ventura at 7 p.m. Dec. 20 and Cerritos at 4 p.m. Dec. 21.
COS is receiving contributions up and down its roster, with Fields, Stroud, Elihu Cobb (Santa Maria), Ryan Johnson (Hanford), Savion Johnson (Hanford), Tivyon Martin (Pasadena), Dewayne Holmes (Riverside) and Carlos Allen (Atlanta) all averaging at least five points a game.
