
Giants headed to West Hills-Lemoore after rolling past Porterville

Amil Fields led an extraordinarily accurate shooting performance from 3-point range to power College of the Sequoias' men's basketball team to its fourth straight win.
Fields, a freshman from Hayward, made 5 of 9 shots from beyond the arc while scoring a team co-leading 17 points off the bench as the state No. 10-ranked Giants pulled away from Porterville in the second half for an 84-65 Central Valley Conference victory Jan. 25 at Porterville.
COS converted 14 of 29 shots from 3-point territory overall (48.3 percent). The Giants average 43.2 percent from the field and 33.5 percent on 3-pointers on the season.
Milton Burnett (3 of 5), Tiyon Martin (3 of 5) and Savion Johnson (2 of 4) all made at least 50 percent of their 3-point attempts as COS remained one game behind CVC-leading and state No. 5 Fresno City (17-3, 6-0) with eight conference games left. The Giants play at Fresno on Feb. 5.
Unranked Porterville (10-10, 3-3) sat tied with COS at halftime at 36-36.
But the Giants pulled away with a 48-point second half.
Burnett (Bullard) shared COS' scoring lead with Fields while also contributing four assists. Fields added nine rebounds.
Ryan Johnson (Hanford) delivered 14 points, 15 rebounds and five assists for the Giants.
COS also received 11 points and five assists from Martin (Pasadena); 12 points, five rebounds and four assists from Savion Johnson (Hanford West); and seven points, 10 rebounds, five assists and three blocks from Tiveon Stroud (Selma).
The Giants return to action at 7 p.m. Jan. 29 at West Hills-Lemoore (3-17, 1-5).
COS won't play at home again until Feb. 8, when it hosts Merced (8-10, 2-4). Tip-off is set for 5 p.m. from Porter Field House.
