Giants men's basketball to host L.A. Southwest at 3 p.m. Nov. 17

College of the Sequoias will ride a five-game winning streak into the finale of its Giant Classic men's basketball crossover event.
Northern California preseason No. 3-ranked Sequoias is set to play Southern California No. 15 Los Angeles Southwest at 3 p.m. Nov. 17 at Porter Field House. NorCal No. 1 San Francisco faces Contra Costa at 1 p.m.
The reigning state runner-up Giants improved to 5-0 on the season with a 93-65 victory over Contra Costa (1-4) on Nov. 14 behind 18 points from Davis White (Santa Clarita) and 17 points from Jaden Haire (Hanford West High).
Sequoias never trailed after Haire thundered home a dunk off a Davis miss to open the scoring 40 seconds into the game.
Contra Costa trailed by five points (22-17) at the 7 minute, 39 second mark before the Giants closed the first half on an 18-7 run to take control.
Sequoias essentially put the game out of reach by outscoring Contra Costa 21-0 to open the second half, including a pair of 3-pointers from White and four points from Haire.
Two free throws from Ahmed Clark (Atlanta, Ga.) put the Giants ahead 61-24 with 15:18 remaining in the game. The Comets would get no closer than 27 points the rest of the way.
White (who added three rebounds and an assist) and Haire (who added nine rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block) were two of five Sequoias players to finish with double figure scoring.
The others were Leyton McGovern (Anderson, Ind.), who had 13 points, two rebounds, five assists and four steals; Clark, who had 11 points and nine rebounds; and Cameron Kelly (Decatur, Ga.), who had 10 points, four rebounds, two assists and a block.
The Giants also received nine points, three rebounds and two steals from Kevin Anderson (Atlanta, Ga.); six points, seven rebounds and three assists from Tyree Gill (Sacramento); four points, four rebounds, an assist and a block from Jamaal Phatty (Frankfurt, Germany); three points, two rebounds and four assists from Jayson Mathews (Sacramento); and two points, two rebounds, three assists and two steals from Raydon Thorson (Queen Creek, Ariz.).
San Francisco (6-0) rolled to a 125-89 victory over L.A. Southwest (2-3) in the first game of the Giant Classic.
