No. 6 Giants Routs Reedley on the Road, 88-45
REEDLEY, Calif. — The College of the Sequoias men's basketball team (20-3, 9-0) put together a team performance on Wednesday night, rolling past Reedley College (8-15, 4-5) 88-45. The Giants used their defensive pressure, rebounding, and efficient scoring to secure their latest conference win.
Sophomore Tyree Gill (Burbank HS) led all scorers with 23 points on 10-of-18 shooting while adding six rebounds and four assists. Jaden Haire (Hanford West HS) controlled the paint with a double-double, posting 20 points and 14 rebounds. Davis White (Saugus HS) stuffed the stat sheet with 15 points, 8 rebounds, and a game-high 9 assists, while Kevin Anderson (Atlanta) came off the bench to contribute 13 points and 7 rebounds.
Sequoias (20-3, 9-0) set the tone early, jumping out to a 40-26 halftime lead. Their defense allowed the Giants to capitalize on transition opportunities.
"We came out aggressive and never let up," Head Coach Dallas Jensen said. "Tyree played well offensively, Jaden dominated inside, and Davis did a little bit of everything."
The Giants continued to the same in the second half, outscoring Reedley 48-19. Sequoias shot 45.3% from the field and made 14-of-18 free throws (77.8%). Despite a tough shooting night from beyond the arc (6-for-28), the Giants dominated inside with 51 total rebounds, including 16 offensive rebounds, and 24 assists.
"Our ball movement was great, and we played unselfish," Jensen added. "We didn't shoot the three well, but we found ways to score and defend at a high level for majority of the game. That's the type of effort we need to carry forward."
The Giants will continue conference play as they will travel to Lemoore College this Saturday, February 8. The Women's will play at 3:00 p.m. and the Men's will play at 5:00 p.m. They will return home for their matchup with Fresno City next Wednesday, February 12, the Women's will tip-off at 5:00 p.m. and the Men's at 7:00 p.m.
