Quincy Hall ('18) Takes Home 400m GOLD for Team USA

For the second straight day, former College of the Sequoias track standout got the world's attention as he claimed Olympic gold in Paris. Quincy Hall won GOLD with a thrilling win in the men's 400 meters at Stade de France.
In what turned out to be an epic comeback, Hall, who started in lane 8, was fourth at the 300-meter mark but surged past the front-runners in the last 100 meters to secure the victory. His incredible finishing kick allowed him to overtake Muzala Samukonga from Zambia, Jareem Richards from Trinidad & Tobago, and Matthew Hudson-Smith from Great Britain, who was the pre-race favorite.
Hall's gold medal win marks a historic moment as he becomes one of a few athletes to win a track Olympic gold after transitioning from a junior college. His final time of 43.40 seconds was not only his personal-best and takes world lead, but also the 5th best time in the world of ALL-TIME. It also puts him 3rd in the Men's 400m all-time for an American.
Hall's Olympic journey began at College of the Sequoias, where he first showcased his potential, earning accolades and setting records in the 400m, 400m hurdles, and 4 x 400m relay. Quincy Hall continued to excel when he transferred to University of South Carolina; His progression continued at South Carolina, culminating in multiple NCAA first-team All-American honors, NCAA Champion and now, an Olympic gold medal.
This monumental achievement adds Quincy Hall to the prestigious list of Olympic gold medalists as he is the first American to win the 400m since LaShawn Merritt, when he won gold at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. His performance in the semifinals, where he clocked a solid 43.95 seconds, was a precursor to the determination and speed he brought into the final.
