Volleyball Wins 2 Over The Weekend
College of the Sequoias Volleyball (2-0) competed in the American River College Classic and beat both Mission and Lassen three sets to none.
"We couldn't have asked for a better start to the season," head coach Kim Rix said. "I think we really set the tone for what we can accomplish this year."
The Giants first opponent of the season was Los Angeles Mission College who they defeated 25-9, 25-11, and 25-7. Sequoias showed their dominance and did not let Mission come close to taking any lead.
"Idalis Rubalcava was unstoppable on the outside," Rix said. "Freshman setter Valerie Vargas and freshman defensive specialist Phoebe Todenhoft had a great start as well. Valerie connected with the hitters and Phoebe and sophomore libero Brittany Roush were solid on defense."
In the Giants second match, Lassen gave COS fits as they battled in all three sets. However, Sequoias kept strong on defense and eventually tamed the Cougars; defeating them 25-16, 25-21, and 25-20.
COS have two matches on Friday September 9 as they compete in the Viking Classic. The Giants will face Sacramento City at 2 p.m. and West Valley at 4 p.m.
