Volleyball battle to stay perfect vs. Taft
Volleyball improved their winning streak to four matches and remain undefeated in conference as they defeated Taft 3-2 on Saturday.
After going down 25-21 in the first set, COS (10-3, CVC 7-0) rallied in the second set and won 25-23 with the help of five errors by Taft.
The Cougars continued the seesaw battle in the third set, as they were led by Virginia Salanoa-Sagapolu. Taft had 15 kills in the third set and won 25-23. Salanoa-Sagapolu had six of those kills in the third set and she finished with 19 kills on the night.
The Lady Giants were not going to let their perfect record go away easily. They forced a fifth set after a commanding 25-17 fourth set. In the fifth, both teams traded leads but it was COS who came up ahead, winning 15-13.
Idalis Rubalcava (Sierra Pacific) led COS with 21 kills and also added 24 digs. Brittney Roush (El Diamante) led Sequoias in digs with 33. Freshman setter Valerie Vargas (Exeter) had 27 assists and three service aces.
COS will look to continue their winning streak as they travel to No. 5 Fresno City on Wednesday. Both the Rams and Giants are a perfect 7-0 in conference. The match for first place will begin at 6 p.m.
