In Thursday's opening round of the 41st annual Tom Gilcrest Invitational, the College of the Sequoias women's basketball team defeated Riverside 91-74.
After going down 17-13 in the first quarter, COS rallied for a 26 point second quarter. Julianna Gutierrez and Zharia McCollum led the charge by scoring six points each in the second quarter.
The Giants bench proved to be the difference maker in the fourth quarter. Isabella Jimenez was a perfect 3-for-3 behind the three-point line, scoring 11 total points. Shae Sanchez hit two shots behind the arc for six points.
McCollum had a team-high 16 points, Cassidy Rodriguez finished with 12, and Michal Sasson chipped in 10.
Sequoias play Pasadena City in the second round of the Gilcrest Invitational. COS defeated Pasadena City, 72-36, in PCC President's Roundball Classic Championship Final, earlier this season.
