COS Women's Basketball Advances to State Championships
The College of the Sequoias women's basketball program is headed to the state championships for the second year in a row under head coach Ray Alvarado. "I'm just really proud and happy for the girls. They played hard all year long and they continued to get better every week. I'm just happy for them" said Alvarado.
COS defeated Diablo Valley College on Saturday night 64-60. Zharia McCollum led the Giants by scoring 24 points and grabbing 12 rebounds. "She played her best game of the season" said Alvarado, "she was all over the floor making plays."
COS heads to Ventura College this Thursday as the play in the opening round of the state tournament. The Giants will play Mt. San Jacinto College who brings in a record of 29-2 to the state tournament and are coming off a 81-67 win versus El Camino. "They are a good team. Everyone at the state championships is a good team. We just need to be ready to play" said Alvarado.
