College of the Sequoias' women's soccer team concluded its best pre-conference start in 14 seasons with a 2-0 victory over Modesto on Oct. 11.
The Giants improved to 6-2-2 overall going into their Central Valley Conference opener Oct. 15 against state No. 2-ranked Fresno City (11-0-1). The match is scheduled for 1 p.m. on COS' campus field.
Maria Corral (Farmersville High) scored off an assist from Kamryn Berry (Tulare Western) in the 35th minute for the only goal COS would need.
Gloria Soria (Mt. Whitney) added an insurance goal for the Giants in the 87th minute off a feed from Joana Guerra (Woodlake).
Ciara Koo (Woodlake) made sure the lead held up by making nine saves, including a stop of a penalty kick late in the game.
COS is off to its best start since it went 10-1-1 in non-conference play and 16-3-1 overall in 2006.
The Giants are also set to host Clovis (2-5-2) at 1 p.m. Oct. 18 on their campus field.
