
Giants Take Down Fresno City 8-1 in Conference Battle
VISALIA, Calif. – The College of the Sequoias women's tennis team continued its outstanding play by defeating Fresno City 8-1 on February 21 at home. The Giants swept all three doubles matches and secured five straight-set wins in singles play to claim another impressive conference victory.
Doubles Play Builds Early Momentum
Sequoias set the tone early, winning all three doubles matches in convincing fashion. The No. 1 pairing of Ruby Zambrano (Dinuba HS) and Jaden Godoy (Dinuba HS) battled for a tight 8-6 victory. At No. 2, Summer Herrera (Mt. Whitney HS) and Mia Orosco (Dinuba HS) won with an 8-0 sweep. The No. 3 team of Hannah Salazar (Tulare Western HS) and Sadie Avila (Hanford HS) closed out doubles play with a strong 8-1 win.
Singles Play Secures the Win
In singles action, Herrera delivered a hard-fought 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 1. Zambrano battled at No. 2 but fell in a competitive match, 6-1, 6-3. Godoy, Avila, Salazar, and Orosco each cruised through their matches, winning in straight sets to cap off the strong team performance.
Head coach Martin Herrera was pleased with the team's execution, stating, "This was a great team win against a tough opponent. Our doubles teams set the tone, and we continued our focus into singles play. I'm proud of how we focused today."
Looking Ahead
The Giants will aim to build on their strong conference start as they prepare for their next match. They will host Antelope Valley Saturday, February 22 at 12:00 p.m. They will also host Reedley College as they continue conference play on Tuesday, February 25 at 1:00 p.m.
