Giants Sweep Antelope Valley in 9-0 Shutout Victory

VISALIA, Calif. – The College of the Sequoias women's tennis team continued its season with a commanding 9-0 victory over Antelope Valley on February 22. The Giants controlled the match from start to finish, winning all doubles and singles matches in straight sets.

Doubles Play Sets the Tone

The Giants came out strong in doubles, securing all three matchups convincingly. The No. 1 duo of Summer Herrera (Mt. Whitney HS) and Mia Orosco (Dinuba HS) took an 8-2 victory. At No. 2, Ruby Zambrano (Dinuba HS) and Jaden Godoy (Dinuba HS) remained strong by winning 8-1. The No. 3 team of Hannah Salazar (Tulare Western HS) and Sadie Avila (Hanford HS) completed the doubles sweep with an 8-1 victory.

Singles Seals the Win

COS carried their momentum into singles play, winning all six matches in straight sets. Herrera led the charge at No. 1, blanking her opponent 6-0, 6-0. Zambrano, Godoy, Avila, Orosco, and Breanna Garcia (El Diamante HS) each followed with outstanding performances to complete the shutout.

Head coach Martin Herrera praised the team's execution, stating, "Our players stayed focused and executed the game plan well. We played strong doubles and carried that momentum into singles. This was a great all-around performance by the team."

Upcoming Matches

The Giants will look to keep their winning streak alive as they prepare for their next match as they continue Central Valley Conference (CVC) play, when they host Reedley College on Tuesday, February 25 at 1:00 p.m. They will also host Modesto Junior College on Thursday, February 27 at 12:00 p.m.
