College of the Sequoias' softball team was just as successful in the classroom as it was on the field in 2019.
The Giants, who captured the Central Valley Conference title and reached the Northern California Super Regionals during a 28-16 season, had the highest cumulative team grade-point average of any two-year college in the nation.
COS' team GPA was 3.760. Butler Community College in El Dorado, Kan., was second at 3.650. The Giants were the only California community college team in the top 10.
COS sophomores Jenna Reyes (Monache), Samantha Martinez (Wasco), Cassandra Sunblade (Ashland, Neb.), Aubrey Cardoza (Mission Oak), Elizabeth Valdez (Liberty-Madera Ranchos) and Arianna Guzman (Liberty), and freshmen Monica Meza (Caruthers), Audra Pratt (Golden West), Amanda Ojeda (Golden West) and Callie Vincent (Woodlake) were named All-America Scholar Athletes by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
The Giants are scheduled to start their season Jan. 28 with a home doubleheader against De Anza.
