Giants to host Modesto on Feb. 20 after 3-0-1 weekend at home
Audra Pratt powered a 45-hit weekend as College of the Sequoias went 3-0-1 during its first four home games of the season.
The sophomore outfielder from Golden West High went a combined 9 for 14 with three doubles, a triple, six runs and seven RBI as the Giants (7-5-1) beat Gavilan 9-4 on Feb. 14, tied Sierra 5-5 on Feb. 15, and swept a doubleheader against Chabot 10-0 and 13-7 on Feb. 15.
Against Gavilan, Pratt was hit by a pitch to force in a run in the third, she reached on an error that allowed a run to score in the fifth and singled in a run in the sixth.
An RBI double by Felicity Morales (Dinuba) fourth gave COS the lead for good at 5-4.
Genesis Rodriguez (Selma), Kayla Matus (Dinuba) and Emily Ibarra (Redwood) all finished with two hits for the Giants.
Olivia Anguigam (El Diamante) earned the win against Gavilan (2-1), allowing two earned runs while tossing a complete-game with 11 strikeouts.
Pratt had a two-run double as COS jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the first inning against Sierra.
Alexis Garcia (Orange Cove) also had a two-run double, and Callie Vincent (Woodlake) added an RBI single in the first for the Giants.
COS led 5-3 heading into the seventh, when Sierra (6-2-1) got a solo home run from Isabella Valentin and an RBI single from Amaryssa Medina.
The game was called because of darkness after eight innings.
Pratt had an RBI double in the first and a two-run triple in the second as the Giants won the opener of the doubleheader against Chabot.
Matus' run-scoring single in the first was all COS would need behind Aguigam and Garcia, who combined to pitch a two-hitter over five innings.
Aguigam gave up one hit while striking out six over 2 2/3 innings, while Garcia allowed one hit while striking out two over 2 1/3 innings.
An RBI double by Madelyn Duran (Tulare Western) in the fourth inning allowed COS to win via the run-rule after a scoreless top of the fifth.
Pratt and Rodriguez each collected three hits for the Giants, who also received two hits apiece from Matus, Ibarra and Duran.
COS capped the weekend home stand with a come-from-behind win over Chabot (2-9) in the nightcap.
Trailing 7-4 in the bottom of the third, Morales hit a bases-loaded triple to tie the score, then put the Giants ahead 8-7 when she scored on Duran's fielder's choice. Rodriguez added a run-scoring double to finish a five-run third inning.
Maddison Servadio (Mission Oak) had an RBI groundout in the fourth, and, in the fifth, Rodriguez had an RBI single, Matus had a run-scoring double and Matus scored when a shot to right by Ibarra was played for an error as the Giants pulled away.
Pratt finished with three hits, while Rodriguez, Matus and Duran all had two for COS.
Garcia came on in relief of Aguigam and worked five innings without allowing an earned run to earn her first win of the season. Garcia struck out four.
COS will remain at home for its next five games, starting a doubleheader against Modesto (2-2) on Feb. 20. Games are set for 1 and 3 p.m.
The Giants also have home games scheduled for 11 a.m. Feb. 22 against West Valley (8-2), 1 p.m. Feb. 22 against San Mateo (14-1) and 2 p.m. Feb. 27 against Merced (1-9) in a Central Valley Conference opener.
COS has won or shared the conference title each of the past two seasons.
