College of the Sequoias' softball team heads north next week for four games after going 1-3 to open the season.
The Giants are set to play at San Jose (3 p.m. Feb. 6), at Ohlone (1 p.m. Feb. 7), at Solano (10 a.m. Feb. 8) and vs. Shasta (noon Feb. 8) at Solano.
Sophomore transfer Olivia Aguigam (El Diamante) led COS to a win in its debut, pitching a three-hitter in a 3-1 victory at Diablo Valley on Jan. 29. Aguigam, who played at Folsom Lake Community College last season, limited the Vikings to an earned run on three hits while striking out eight.
The Giants snapped a 1-1 tie in the sixth inning as Audra Pratt (Golden West) tripled in Emily Ibarra (Redwood), then scored on a single by Madelyn Duran (Tulare Western).
Diablo Valley won the second game of the doubleheader 4-2 despite another mostly strong start from Aguigam, who overcame a four-run first inning to shut the Vikings down the rest of the way.
Monica Meza (Caruthers) scored both COS runs, coming around on an error in the third and again in the fifth on Ibarra's sacrifice fly.
Kayla Matus (Dinuba) had two hits for the Giants.
COS' home debut is set for Feb. 14, when it hosts Sierra at 11 a.m. and Gavilan at 3 p.m.
