Aguigam's perfect game highlights weekend for Giants, who make home debut Feb. 14
Olivia Aguigam's perfect game highlighted a successful weekend for College of the Sequoias' softball team.
The sophomore pitcher out of El Diamante High struck out 15 of the 21 batters she faced to lead the Giants to a 6-0 win over Shasta on Feb. 8 in a game played at Solano College.
Audra Pratt (Golden West) scored when a ground to second by Vanessa Sandoval (Kerman) was played for an error in the second inning for the only run COS (3-5) would need against Shasta (2-8).
Alexis Garcia (Orange Cove) hit a two-run single and Emily Ibarra (Redwood) added an RBI triple as the Giants extended their lead to 4-0 in the third.
Felicity Morales (Dinuba) scored on an error in the fourth and Madelyn Duran (Tulare Western) added an RBI double in the fifth as COS pulled away.
The Giants beat Solano 11-4 earlier Feb. 8 behind Anguigam (one earned run, 11 strikeouts in 6 2/3 innings) and Pratt (3 for 4, double and three RBIs).
COS broke open a 2-2 game against Solano (1-3) with seven runs in the fifth inning, highlighted by an RBI triple from Kayla Matus (Dinuba), and run-scoring singles from Pratt, Garcia, Sandoval and Genesis Rodriguez (Selma).
The Giants opened the weekend with a 4-3 loss to Ohlone (3-2) on Feb. 7.
Ibarra drove in two runs and Maddison Servadio (Mission Oak) knocked in one for COS. Pratt and Matus had the Giants' only hits.
COS continues its season-opening road trip with a game at Bakersfield at 2 p.m. Feb. 11.
The Giants will make their home debut Feb. 14 when they host Gavilan (0-0) at 10 a.m. and Sierra (4-2) at 2 p.m.
COS will also host Chabot (1-7) for a doubleheader Feb. 15, with games set to start at noon and 2 p.m.
