
COS headed to L.A. Valley Tournament
College of the Sequoias women's basketball team will be looking to bounce back from its first consecutive losses since December 2015 when it travels to Los Angeles for the L.A. Valley College Tournament on Dec. 13-15.
The state No. 14-ranked Giants (7-3) are scheduled to open the three-day, eight-team tournament against No. 9 L.A. Trade Tech (8-2) at 7 p.m. Dec. 13.
The tournament's opening day also features No. 10 San Francisco (6-3) against Long Beach (3-3) at 1 p.m., Fullerton (5-3) against No. 2 Ventura (9-0) at 3 p.m., and Saddleback (2-6) against L.A. Valley (2-4).
Ventura beat COS 56-53 on Dec. 6 in the semifinals of the Gilcrest Invitational. The Pirates went on to defeat No. 7 Mt. San Antonio 61-56 in the final of COS' 43rd annual tournament.
The Giants have been led by Alaysia Reed (Las Vegas), who averages 12.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.9 steals per game.
Aubrey Nunes (El Diamante) is averaging 10.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per game, while Serena Ybarra (Coalinga) and Felicia Ramirez (Caruthers) are contributing 9.1 and 8.1 points per game, respectively.
COS won't return home to Porter Field House until Jan. 8, when it opens Central Valley Conference play against Taft (1-9) at 5 p.m.
