
Giants stomp Porterville; head next to West Hills-Lemoore on Jan. 29
College of the Sequoias' women's basketball team brought an emphatic end to a three-game losing streak.
The Northern California No. 15-ranked Giants stormed out to a 23-3 first-quarter lead and never looked back during a 73-22 Central Valley Conference victory at Porterville on Jan. 25.
COS expanded its lead to 47-10 by halftime en route to improving to 13-8 on the season and 2-3 in conference play. The Pirates fall to 3-18 overall and 1-4 in the CVC.
Alaysia Reed (Las Vegas) led the Giants with 15 points, seven rebounds, four steals and three assists.
Felicia Ramirez (Caruthers) contributed 12 points, eight rebounds and five assists for COS, which also received 13 points from Serena Ybarra (Coalinga), nine points from Neli Diaz (McFarland), six points and seven rebounds from Sapphire Jones (Hanford) and nine rebounds from Kuda Ceesay (Atlanta).
Up next for COS is a conference game at West Hills-Lemoore (6-14, 2-2), set for 5 p.m. Jan. 29.
The Giants remain on the road for games at Taft (2-18, 0-5) on Feb. 1 and at NorCal No. 10-ranked Fresno (12-8, 4-1) on Feb. 5 before returning to Porter Field House on Feb. 8 to host state-No. 9 and CVC-leading Merced (16-5, 5-0). Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
