Giants' Reed named 2nd team All-Star ahead of playoff opener
College of the Sequoias' sophomore Alaysia Reed was selected second-team All-State for the northern region by the California Community College Women's Basketball Coaches' Association.
Reed, a sophomore point guard out of Las Vegas, averages 12.2 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 2.8 steals per game for the 11th-seeded Giants (19-9), who play in the Northern California Regionals on Feb. 28 at No. 6 Sierra (20-7).
The winner advances to a round three game March 7 against the winner between No. 3 Butte (22-6) and No. 14 Yuba (17-7) at the home of the best remaining seed.
Round three winners move on to the state's Elite Eight tournament, scheduled for March 12, 14-15 at West Hills-Lemoore.
COS has reached the Elite Eight the last three seasons and four of the past five overall. The Giants are making their eighth straight trip to the postseason.
