The College of the Sequoias football team outgained Feather River College in total yards, time of possession, and third down efficiency.

Those stats do not tell the whole story in football, as turnovers and penalties primarily plagued the Giants in Saturday's 37-10 loss to the Golden Eagles.

Feather River forced a total of five turnovers at the Mineral King Bowl, with four coming by way of interceptions. Sequoias' quarterback Nolan LeForge tossed three interceptions, on a 159-yard, 13 completion day. Gus Villareal was credited for the fourth total interception in the third quarter.

Both teams combined for 26 penalties with the Giants giving up 124-yards compared to Feather River's 71-yards.

However, COS scored first on a Cameron Horsting 27-yard field goal in the first quarter to take a 3-0 lead.

The Golden Eagles countered with an 11-yard touchdown run by D'Angelo Reder two minutes later to go up 7-3.

That was the beginning of a 37-0 point run by the visitors, Feather River.

Golden Eagles quarterback Andrew Gomez threw for two touchdowns on a 145-yard day.

Sequoias running back William Davis punched in a 15-yard rush at 13:46 for the final scoring drive of the afternoon for both teams.

Davis finished with a total of 37-yards on 10 carriers. Teammate Andrew Azua received 16 carries and rushed for 44-yards.

Blake Wells led COS in receiving yards with 52. On defense, Andrew Gomez had a team-high 5 total tackles for Sequoias.

Next up for the Giants is a showdown with Diablo Valley College on Saturday, Sept. 16. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at the Mineral King Bowl.
