Preview: Giants head to Oakland in search of a conference victory
The road to the College of the Sequoias football team's first conference win since 2013 does not get any easier as they face the State's No. 7 ranked team Laney College on Friday.
With the Giants 35-7 loss to Modesto Junior College this past Saturday, COS dropped to 2-4 overall and 0-1 in the Valley Conference. The Giants have lost 19 conference games in a row, and 25 of their last 26 dating back to 2012. The last conference win for COS was in 2013 over San Joaquin Delta.
Laney goes into Friday night's matchup against COS after defeating San Joaquin Delta 40-7 last Saturday.
Eagles running back Ahmari Davis led Laney with 146-yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns on 17 carries. Davis has 796 yards in six games this 2017 season and is tied for the most touchdowns in the Valley Conference with ten.
Looking to stop Davis is a Giants defense that allows an average of 120 rushing yards a game.
Giants safety Jailyn Mays leads the team with 24 total tackles. COS as a team has had 45 tackles for losses this season, driving back opponents a combined 191 yards.
Defensive lineman Justin Wright looks to get to Laney quarterback Noah Suszckiewicz, as Wright leads Sequoias with two sacks this season.
The game is scheduled to start at 7 p.m. at Laney Eagle Stadium in Oakland.
