Preview: Giants look to snap losing streak at home vs. San Joaquin Delta
After falling 34-17 to Laney last Friday, the College of the Sequoias football team looks to snap its four-game losing streak on Saturday against San Joaquin Delta at the Mineral King Bowl.
Kickoff between the Giants and Mustangs is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Sequoias' last conference win was against San Joaquin Delta in 2013. Since then, COS have lost 20 conference games in a row and 26 of its last 27, dating back to 2013.
Gus Villareal got his first start at quarterback for COS last week and completed 15 of 23 passes, for 275 yards and 2 touchdowns. Villareal's touchdown strikes were caught by Phillip Adams. Adams' 29 yards per catch is best in the state and his 580 receiving yards is 16th best. The Giants offensive line has to keep Villareal on his feet, as COS allowed 8 sacks last week against Laney.
It has been an up-and-down season for San Joaquin Delta, as the Mustangs won two of its first three, then lost three straight, before winning last week against Chabot.
Mustangs quarterback Wayne Brooks rushed for over 100 yards in each of Delta's first five games. Brooks is the fifth leading rusher in the state of California with 820 yards and his 10 touchdowns this season is tied for sixth best.
Brooks leads a dominant offense, which is 15th in the state in yards with an average of 400.3 yards-per-game. The Mustangs had a season-high 608-yards against Santa Rosa on Sept. 16.
