Giants fall to Chabot in home season finale
The College of the Sequoias football team dropped its sixth straight game on Saturday, falling 45-37 to Chabot at the Mineral King Bowl.
With the defeat, COS has lost 22 conference games in a row and 28 of its last 29, dating back to 2013. The Giants are now 2-7 overall in 2017.
It was a quarterback battle between Sequoias' Gus Villareal and Chabot's Jonathan O'Brien.
Villareal led the Giants into the end zone during the team's first possession of the game by finding Blake Wells for an 8-yard strike. After a missed extra point by Ryan Buchanan, COS led 6-0.
That was the only lead Sequoias would have the entire night.
Chabot answered back with a touchdown of their own as O'Brien hit Samuel Adams for a 15-yard score.
O'Brien finished the game 26 for 37, throwing for 382-yards, and six touchdowns. Adams caught two of O'Brien's six scores.
Sequoias were down by one point, four times, but three fumbles hurt the rhythm of the Giants offense.
Villareal coughed up the ball twice, but finished 20 for 39, for 347-yards through the air, and four touchdowns. The freshman signal caller from Dinuba also had 77-yards rushing on 13 carries.
Sequoias end their season on the road against second-place Fresno City. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Ratcliffe Stadium.
