Four out of the five College of the Sequoias softball games were close this past week, with the Giants going 1-5 overall.
Feb. 15 at San Joaquin Delta: Sequoias had a non-conference game on Wednesday at San Joaquin Delta, and jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the fourth inning.
COS would keep a one run lead, 3-2, at the end of the inning. In the bottom of the fifth SJD exploded for four runs, and ultimately won 6-3.
Madison Montemayor was 3-for-3 on the day, scoring once in Stockton.
Feb. 18-19 Stars and Stripes Tournament
COS vs. Ohlone: The Giants were able to win just one of their four Stars and Stripes Tournament games.
In their first game against Ohlone, the Giants managed one hit the entire game.
Ohlone pitcher Nalani Scates was on fire in the 2-0 win, striking out six Giants in seven innings of work.
COS vs. Gavilan: Sequoias bounced back in their second game against Gavilan, scoring six runs on seven hits.
Josey Burke, Breanne Tabarez, Korina Martinez, Ashley Paradine, and Madison Wedel each picked up an RBI in the 6-3 win.
Ashley Guzman pitched well in the victory, allowing no earned runs in seven innings pitched.
COS vs. Gavilan: Gavilan would get revenge on Sunday, winning 8-7 in the eighth inning.
Both the Rams and Giants hit the ground running to begin the game. The two teams combined for 10 runs in the first three inning.
Brittney Howard was 4-for-5 at the plate and Tabarez hit 3-for-5 on the day.
Gavilan pitcher Madison Gutierrez-Urban was just too much for the Giants on both sides of the game.
Gutierrez-Urban pitched all eight innings, and was 3-for-5 at the dish.
COS vs. San Mateo: Sequoias was able to muster up one run in a 11-1 defeat to San Mateo. The game was called in the sixth inning.
Next Up
The Giants next game is at West Valley on Saturday. COS will play a doubleheader, weather permitting.
