Football loses first game this season

PLEASANT HILL - Third downs were the downfall for College of the Sequoias on Saturday.
COS was two of twelve; 17% in their 44-28 loss to Diablo Valley.
On the opening play from scrimmage, Elijah Porchia took Thomas Wilson's pass 54-yards for a touchdown.
After a Diablo Valley field goal, a short punt by COS gave the Vikings great field position at the Giants 30. DVC punched it in on a 17 yard touchdown pass from Jado Brisendine to Marques Surrell to take a 10-7 lead.
Wilson and COS regained the lead at 7:35 of the first quarter, after his pass split defenders and into the hands of Sylvester Augustin. The 27-yard touchdown put the Giants up 14-10.
Diablo Valley took a 20 point lead going into halftime and did not let up despite an attempted comeback by Sequoias.
COS cut its deficit to six in the third quarter when Wilson found Jewison Dawkins for a 21 yard touchdown pass. Trailing 34-28, it was the Giants' last scoring play of the evening.
Vikings kicker Manny Lopez drilled his third field goal of the game. Brisendine and Surrell hooked up again for a 56-yard touchdown pass to give DVC the 44-28 win.
Porchia continued to show his diversity as he had 115 yards from scrimmage and one touchdown. Wilson threw for 164 yards and three touchdowns on 11 competitions. He also had two interceptions on the day. Augustin led COS in receiving with 65 yards and one touchdown on four receptions.
Ron LaForce got his third interception of the season versus Diablo Valley. LaForce is garnering four-year colleges' attention as he has recorded an interception every game this year. Rakeem Terry had 1.5 sacks plus 1.5 tackles for loss.
The Giants will host Sierra at home this Saturday. Kickoff is slated for 2 p.m. at Giant-Chevrolet Mineral King Bowl.
