
COS Football ready to host Sierra

On Saturday, there will be an air show at Giant Chevrolet-Cadillac Mineral King Bowl.
The No.14 Sierra Wolverines will come to Visalia to battle the No. 12 College of the Sequoias Giants. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
Here is a quick breakdown of each team:
Sierra Wolverines
Sierra currently is seventh in the state in passing yards with 975. Wolverines quarterback Adam Besana pilots the attack averaging 266 yards passing per game and has six touchdowns this season. Romello Bentley, Aaron Short and Isaiah Bailey are all top five in NorCal with all averaging a minimum of 65 yards receiving per game. Short leads the NorCal division with seven touchdowns.
The Wolverines rely on tempo and big plays on offense. They are 65 out of 69 in time of possession at only 26 minutes. The red zone is hit or miss for the Wolverines, as they are 50 percent, 5-of-10, in the area.
Sierra is the fifth to the bottom in the state in rushing yards. The Wolverines have only 190 yards through three games.
Last week, Sierra defeated Contra Costa 35-20 for their first win of the season. COS beat Contra Costa 55-47 in their home opener.
COS Giants
COS has allowed an average of 225 passing yards per game on defense. The Giants are anchored by Ron LaForce. The sophomore defensive back got his third interception of the season versus Diablo Valley. LaForce is garnering attention from four-year colleges, as he has recorded an interception every game this year. He is also averaging nine tackles per game.
Sophomore linebacker Darren Hambrick Jr. leads the team in sacks with two and four tackles for loss.
Quarterback Thomas Wilson has directed a COS attack that is ranked No. 10 in the state. The Giants are averaging 37 points per game.
Wilson leads the Central Valley Conference with seven passing touchdowns and is second in passing per game with 194.3 yards.
Sophomore running back Elijah Porchia (Mission Oak) leads the Giants in rushing with 349 yards and has four touchdowns on the ground. Porchia continues to show his versatility. He also has 107 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Sylwester Augustyn leads COS in receiving with 126 yards and three touchdowns.
