Football's comeback vs. Chabot falls short
HAYWARD - For the sixth consecutive season, COS Football will not be going to a bowl game after they lost 31-21 to Chabot on Saturday.
COS (3-6, 0-4 VC) quarterback Thomas Wilson's 1-yard rushing touchdown would tie the game at 7-7, but Chabot (4-5, 3-1 VC) kept its bowl dreams alive with the help of a 28-point first half.
Gladiators quarterback Jack Moroney threw for three touchdown passes, with running back DeAngelo Stubbs catching one. Stubbs scored his second touchdown on the ground on a 7-yard scamper in the second quarter.
After taking a 28-7 halftime lead, Chabot only scored a field goal the rest of the game.
The Giants got help from their quarterbacks in the fourth quarter. Wilson would get his second rushing touchdown on another 1-yard keeper.
Courvosier King caught Josh Sierra's 19-yard throw for a touchdown, but time ran out on the Giants comeback.
Antonio Parnell led COS in receiving with five catches for 89-yards.
Defensive back Ron LaForce led the Giant defense with nine total tackles.
With the loss, Sequoias is eliminated from bowl consideration. The last COS bowl appearance was in 2010 against San Mateo in the Bulldog Bowl. In that 2010 contest, the Giants lost 27-20.
COS will close out its season at home on Saturday. The Giants will face rival Fresno City, with kickoff scheduled for 1 p.m.
