Game Preview: COS vs. Chabot
COS football look to end its four-game losing streak as Giants travel to Hayward to face defending conference champion, Chabot.
Both teams are not ranked in the CCCAA State Poll, but the two are included in the Regional Poll. Chabot is ranked No. 11, while COS is three spots lower at No. 14.
The Giants look to keep their bowl eligibility alive by winning their remaining games this season to have a chance of clinching a berth.
Here is a quick breakdown of each team before the Valley Conference matchup:
Chabot Gladiators (3-5, 2-1 VC):
The Gladiators come into this game fired up, after an embarrassing 52-7 loss to Modesto.
Quarterback Jack Moroney struggled, throwing three interceptions and completing 10 out of 31 passes. He was still able to throw for 118-yards to improve his average to fourth best in the conference with 152.8.
Moroney will look to spin it to wide-receivers Alan Busey and Leroy Elliott Jr. The pair of receivers each have five touchdown catches this season.
On defense, Chabot has the conference leaders in both tackles-per-game and sacks. Linebacker Nohea Keahi leads with an average of 9.4 tackles. Defensive lineman Aaron Andrews has 13 sacks, which is also good for the most in the state.
COS Giants (3-5, 0-3 VC):
After leading San Joaquin Delta 10-6 last week, COS was outscored 34-0 in the second and third quarters. The Giants could not keep up with the Mustangs in the 53-31 loss.
Starting quarterback Josh Sierra had a decent night with 120 yards and one touchdown, but quarterback Thomas Wilson was the star.
Wilson came off the bench and had a great day despite the negative result. He threw for three touchdowns and 200 yards. It might have been the spark the Sophomore needed to regain form down the stretch. Wilson is second in the conference in yards-per-game (196.7) and touchdowns (12).
The Giants defense allow an average of 39 points per game to their opponents. To win they have to shore up their weaknesses and force turnovers. Sequoias has 13 turnovers on the year. Defensive back Ron LaForce leads the team in interceptions with five.
