
Giants forge tie for conference lead
COW sweeps Columbia to move back into a tie with Fresno City for first place in the Central Valley Conference race.

Karen Rodriguez knocked down a match-leading 11 kills as College of the Sequoias regained a share of the Central Valley Conference women's volleyball lead with a 25-20, 25-18, 25-15 victory over Columbia on Sept. 27.
The Giants (9-3, 3-0) entered the road match a half game behind Fresno City, which didn't have a conference match that night.
Rodriguez (Kingsburg High) converted 48 percent of her 21 attacks while also contributing four digs as the Giants, who are listed among the "Best of the Rest" in the California Community College Women's Volleyball Coaches Association state rankings, won their fifth straight match. Columbia (3-3, 1-3) also is listed among the "Best of the Rest."
Christa Pilgrim (Mission Oak) produced nine kills and seven digs, Madison Sousa (Hanford West) had seven kills, Jayda English (Lemoore) had six kills, Alexis Carmoma (Madera) had 16 digs, Kia Campbell (Coalinga) had 17 assists and Sydney Guinn (Exeter) added 13 assists and five digs for COS.
The Giants return to action this week with a home match against Taft (4-12, 2-2) at 6 p.m. Oct. 2 and a match at Merced at 6 p.m. Oct. 4.
COS will host state No. 3-ranked Fresno City (15-2, 3-0) at 6 p.m. Oct. 11.
