
Giants down West Hills-Coalinga
COS (14-6, 8-1) strengthened its hold on second place in the Central Valley Conference women's volleyball standings with a 16-25, 25-22, 25-20, 25-21 victory over West Hills-Coalinga on Oct. 18 at Porter Field House.
Christa Pilgrim (Mission Oak) and Hazel Martinez (Mission Oak) powered the Giants' attack with 13 kills apiece. Pilgrim also contributed 13 digs.
Jayda English (Lemoore) had four kills while Karen Rodriguez (Kingsburg) added three kills and seven digs for COS, which also received 21 assists from Sydney Guinn (Exeter), 10 assists from Kia Campbell (Coalinga) and nine digs from Alexis Carmona (Madera).
COS, which is listed as one of the "Best of the Rest" in the California Community College Women's Volleyball Coaches Association state rankings, now has a two-match lead over the Falcons (10-7, 6-3) and Merced (9-4, 6-3) for second place. State No. 3 Fresno City (22-2, 9-0) leads the CVC race.
The Giants, winners of two straight, are set to play at Porterville (9-10, 3-5) at 6 p.m. Oct. 23 in their only match this week.
COS returns home to host Columbia (4-7, 2-7) at 5 p.m. Oct. 30.
