
Giants headed to Merced tied for conference lead

COS will look to keep pace with state No. 3-ranked Fresno City atop the Central Valley Conference standings when it plays at Merced on Oct. 4. The match is scheduled to start at 6 p.m.
The Giants (10-3, 4-0) remained tied for first place following a 25-8, 25-14, 23-25, 25-11 victory over Taft on Oct. 2 that featured 14 kills and 10 kills, respectively, from Hazel Martinez (Mission Oak) and Christa Pilgrim (Mission Oak). Lexi Carmona (Madera) contributed 21 digs and Sydney Guinn (Exeter) added 25 assists.
COS and Taft (4-13, 2-3) are listed among the "Best of the Rest" in the California Community College Women's Volleyball Coaches Association state rankings. Merced (6-3, 3-2) also is listed as one of the 30 "Best of the Rest" teams that sit outside the Top 25.
Fresno City (16-2 overall) improved to 4-0 in CVC play with a 25-3, 25-11, 25-3 sweep of Reedley on Oct. 2. The Giants host the Rams at 6 p.m. Oct. 11.
COS' next home match is set for 6 p.m. Oct. 9 against West Hills-Lemoore at Porter Field House.
