Giants get breather before hosting Columbia on Oct. 30
After a weekend off, COS will resume pursuit of a second straight 20-win season when it hosts Columbia on Oct. 30.
The Central Valley Conference match between the Giants (15-6, 9-1) and Claim Jumpers (4-8, 2-8) is set for 5 p.m. from Porter Field House.
COS remained in sole possession of second place in the CVC with a 25-20, 20-25, 25-12, 25-17 victory at Porterville (9-11, 3-6) on Oct. 23 behind a season-high 11 kills from Madison Sousa (Hanford West).
"Madison did an amazing job," Giants coach Kim Rix said. "She saw the court and placed the ball in the open spots."
Hazel Martinez (Mission Oak) had nine kills and Karen Rodriguez (Kingsburg) added eight kills as COS won its third straight match.
Alexis Carmona had 13 digs, Sydney Guinn had 18 assists and Kia Campell added 16 assists for the Giants, who trail state No. 3-ranked Fresno City (22-2, 10-0) by one match in CVC play. COS plays at Fresno City at 6 p.m. Nov. 13.
The Giants need wins in five of their final six regular season matches to reach the 20-win plateau.
