Giants win 7th straight, set stage for showdown with FCC
A share of the Central Valley Conference lead will be on the line for COS when it travels to state No. 3-ranked Fresno City on Nov. 13.
The Giants (19-6, 13-1) are one match behind the Rams (26-2, 14-0) with two to play. First serve is set for 6 p.m.
COS' last conference title came in 2006, when it went 15-1. Fresno City has won the conference crown 12 straight seasons since, and haven't lost a CVC match since 2007.
The Giants kept within striking distance of the Rams with a 26-24, 25-13, 25-12 victory over West Hills-Lemoore (3-15, 3-11) on Nov. 8.
Hazel Martinez (Mission Oak) led the Giants with 11 kills. Christa Pilgrim (Mission Oak) added nine kills and Maddie Sousa (Hanford West) and Karen Rodriguez (Kingsburg) contributed seven kills each. Sydney Guinn (Exeter) and Kia Campbell (Coalinga) each had 20 assists, while Lexi Carmona (Monache) delivered 18 digs for COS, which won its seventh straight match.
COS, which is looking for its second straight 20-win season and fifth consecutive postseason appearance, closes out the regular season by hosting Reedley (2-15, 1-13) at 7 p.m. Nov. 15.
