SANTA MARIA - The College of the Sequoias Men's Soccer team fell 3-2 to Allan Hancock (1-2-0) on Saturday.
"We got up quick and had momentum but defensively we had some mental lapses and it hurt us," head coach Scott Rogers said. "We are going to be able and build on this for sure though. We are a young team that has some promise."
In the first half, COS (1-1-0) opened the scoring in the 20' when Jonathan Gutierrez gave them the 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs battled back and scored three goals in a span of six minutes. Miguel Gomez scored twice and Javier Rios once to give Allan Hancock a 3-1 lead at the break.
In the second half, Bulldog goalkeeper Jose Cardenas saved five Giant shots and only allowed one goal. With multiple shots off the crossbar and hitting posts, Sequoias could not even it up.
"The positive is that we had about 9-10 shots to their 2 or 3 in the second half and dominated possession," Rogers said. "Their second half keeper made some great saves. We hit the crossbar from distance. Some things just didn't quite fall our way."
COS will travel to Bakersfield on Tuesday to face the Renegades. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
