MODESTO - Men's Soccer closed out the Big 8/CVC crossover tournament with a win, as they defeated Modesto 3-1 on Friday afternoon.
Forward Christian Ibarra got the scoring started for COS (8-5-2, 2-1-1 CVC), to give the Giants a 1-0 lead. Modesto (2-8-6, 1-3-1 Big 8) could not stop Sequoias' forward Jonathan Gutierrez. He got past the goalkeeper, twice, to put the Giants ahead 3-0. Gutierrez leads the team with 14 goals this season.
Modesto would salvage a goal late, but it was not enough, as COS cruised to a 3-1 victory.
The Giants will have a week off and travel to West Hills Lemoore on Oct. 28. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
