Men's Soccer (5-3-1, 1-0-1 CVC) defeated Clovis 3-0 in their first meeting in program history.
"We had a clear game plan going in and simply executed it," head coach Scott Rogers said. "The game had several moments where momentum shifted. Luis Rubalcava came up huge by saving a pk in the second half when we were up 1-0. Credit to Clovis though, they move the ball very well."
Jonathan Gutierez got the scoring started in the second half for COS after Rogers got a yellow card. Christian Ibarra's strike quickly gave the Giants a 2-0 lead. Judeh Halim added insurance as his goal gave COS the 3-0 win.
Rogers believes his defense has room to grow but he is confident they can solve the minor issues.
"Jose "Lalo" Hernandez is key for our backline," Rogers said. "He directs things and covers so much ground. Our defense will have to be more organized against Fresno City. [Fresno City head coach] Eric Solsberg has a dynamic group of guys that can attack with speed. We will be ready for the challenge."
The Giants will travel to play No. 2 Fresno City on Tuesday Oct. 4. COS split the series 1-1 last season.
