Men's Basketball get their second conference win
VISALIA - Free throws were key for the College of the Sequoias men's basketball team to defeat Merced 92-85 on Wednesday night.
"We shot the ball better than we have in a long time and that showed on the scoreboard," COS head coach Rusty Smith said.
The Giants knocked down 12-of-13 free throw attempts in the victory.
COS big man Kentrey Bynum, who was a force in the paint, led the Giants with 26 points. Bobby Kazar quietly had a double-double with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
Smith constantly encouraged his forward whenever he came close to the bench. He had high praise for Bynum.
"He is always ready to play and he's so tough," Smith said. "He plays much bigger against better opponents."
The main focus for Smith is playing well at home. He knows that winning games at Porter Field House will lead to success in other areas of the schedule.
"We have to hold our home court advantage," Smith said. "It's tough on the road, and every win in conference is a big one."
