Men's Basketball pick up another Conference win at home
VISALIA - A Kentrey Bynum dunk and free throw sealed the win for the College of the Sequoias men's basketball team on Saturday, defeating Porterville 76-75 at Porter Field House.
COS led 44-41 at halftime, with Zac Nuttall contributing 12 points. He was 4-of-7 from the three point line at the break.
In the second half, the Giants struggled from beyond the arc, shooting 25 percent. Porterville took advantage of Sequoias 16 turnovers, and scored 18 points off of them.
Pirates forward Da'morea Green hit a couple free throws to cut the Giants lead to one point, 73-72.
With the three's not falling, COS looked inside the paint for points in the final minutes.
Bynum drove down the lane and dropped the hammer on Porterville's Tevin Howell to go up 75-72 with 30 seconds.
After a Pirate timeout, Porterville guard Carlos Angel's three pointer knotted the score at 75 with 16 seconds left.
Bynum would be fouled, and he would make the first free throw and miss the second. COS was now up one point, 76-75.
Porterville had 12 seconds to make something happen, but COS would hold on until the scoreboard hit double zeros.
The Giants will travel to West Hills Coalinga on Wednesday with tipoff set for 6 p.m.
