Men’s Basketball win in an overtime thriller

The College of the Sequoias men's basketball team snap their three game losing streak with a 78-70 overtime win over West Hills-Coalinga on Saturday.

It was a team effort with five Giants scoring in double figures. Austin Armstead had a team-high 21 points, while Isaiah Johnson contributed a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Forward duo Kentrey Bynum chipped in 12 and Bobby Kazar had 10 points in the victory. Zac Nuttall came off the bench and scored 11.

After Falcons forward Romario Saunders hit a three, COS needed every single point to come back from a seven point deficit with 1:16 remaining.

Johnson knocked down just one out of his two free throws, to put COS down six.

After a couple of missed free throws by West Hills, Armstead buried a jumper, to cut the deficit to four.

On the ensuing Falcons possession, Armstead would pick the pocket of the West Hills ball handler, and score a layup, to put COS down two with 44 seconds remaining.

The Giants would get another lucky break, as West Hills would turn the ball over on their next possession.

With 24 seconds, Sequoias had the option to go for the win with a three, or tie it up. Bynum would take a jumper to tie it up, but it bounced off the rim. Kazar was underneath the basket to clean it up, and scored the game tying layup.

West Hills got one more chance to win the game with six seconds left. Saunders shot a three, but was offline, forcing the game to overtime.

After a Nuttall three, and a couple of Bynum's free throws, the Giants would not look back in overtime, dominating 78-70 for the win.

Up next for COS is a road game against Reedley on Wednesday. The Giants blew past the Tigers, 94-61, in their matchup earlier this season.
