VISALIA - College of the Sequoias women's basketball could not get passed Mt. San Antonio in the 40th annual Gilcrest Invitational final on Sunday, losing 69-47.
"We didn't play solid, team basketball and had a difficult time finding the right matchups," COS head coach Ray Alvarado said. "They are a big and athletic team. We definitely didn't shoot the ball well and we need to in games like these."
The Giants had a tough time shooting the ball, as they were 32 percent from the field. COS could not get any momentum going in the first half, scoring only 17.
Mt. San Antonio cruised in the second half with a 24 point lead late in the fourth quarter.
Sophomore guard Idalis Rubalcava led the Giants with 15 points on the night. Sophomore center Dojahnae Senegal was not far behind with 12 points.
Alvarado did not make any excuses for not dropping his second consecutive tournament final, but was optimistic on what his team can do later this season.
"All the teams that played today played four in a row, so no, that wasn't an issue," Alvarado said. "Hopefully we can see them again with a full and healthy team."
COS will have a week off and then compete in the Antelope Valley College Tournament on Dec. 16-18 in Lancaster.

5th Place Game: Riverside 61 - San Joaquin Delta 67
