Giants edge the Rams in first place battle
FRESNO - The College of the Sequoias women's basketball team last won the Central Valley Conference in 2014. Wednesday's 83-75 victory over Fresno City gives the Giants the inside track to capture the conference crown in 2017.
First place was on the line with both teams coming into the game at a perfect, 5-0 in conference.
COS (19-3, 6-0 CVC) guard Greissen Leslie got her second straight start and did not disappoint.
The freshman from Auckland, New Zealand scored a season-high 23 points in the victory. She knocked down 7-of-10 three-pointers and hit five in a row at one point in the game.
Leslie got help from her teammate Dojahnae Senegal. The sophomore forward recorded a double-double in her hometown, scoring 21 points and racking up 13 rebounds.
The Giants will look to extend their winning streak to seven games next Wednesday against Taft. COS defeated the Cougars 95-39 in their previous meeting this season. Tip off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Porter Field House on Feb. 1.
