MERCED - Merced gave No. 6 COS a scare on Saturday, as the game was closer than anticipated for the Giants. The state's sixth ranked team ultimately hung on and won 79-64 on the road.
Sequoias guard Idalis Rubalcava led the charge with a double-double. She had a team-high 19 points and 11 rebounds.
Darci Finnigan got a start and did not let her team down. The Auckland native scored 12 points in the victory.
COS (21-3, 8-0 CVC) had a two-headed monster on the bench that gave Merced (11-14, 3-5 CVC) fits. Griessen Leslie scored 13 points and was 3-for-4 from beyond the arc. Zharia McCollum shot 6-of-9 from the field in her 12 point night.
With the win, COS extend their winning streak to eight games. They will look to make it nine on Wednesday, on the road against Porterville.
